RECAP >> A historic day was celebrated by all earlier this week as the Emmaus girls’ and boys’ cross country teams christened their new course at Camp Olympic by sweeping Pocono Mountain East and West along with Pleasant Valley on Senior Day.
“It was a beautiful day celebrating our new cross country 5K course at Camp Olympic,” said head coach Kami Reinhard. “Lower Macungie Parks, our athletic department, staff, administration and school board, our cross country coaching staff and team worked very hard to make it all happen. It was a true teamwork approach!”
With a number of distinguised guests in attendance, the girls improved their overall record to 6-0 on the season, while the boys upped their mark to 4-2.
“We recognize and give credit to Budd Coates, whose idea created the foundation of the course many years ago,” said Reinhard. “His help and guidance has been priceless in making sure we got everything just right. With the idea and help of our assistant coaches from the past two years, we moved forward with the plan to offer a hilly and challenging course to our opponents.”
“We also want to thank Rebecca George, our AD, who worked with the Lower Macungie Parks to work out many details. We enjoyed every minute of the meet and both teams performed very well on the course! This 2022 XC team will forever be the seed of this historic moment for the Emmaus Cross Country program.”
Reinhard’s daughter, senior Hailey Reinhard, took home top honors in the girls’ race for the Hornets who had nine runners finish in the top 10.
Reinhard finished with a time of 19:15.37, just seconds ahead of her teammate, freshman Madelyn McCartney who finished second, 19:15.70. Sophomore Payton Campell was next (third place/19:31) followed by senior Nicole Nosal (fifth/21:47).
In the boys race, Emmaus had four of the top five placewinners. Sophomore Conor Fisher led the way with a second place finish in a time of 17:11 followed by Senior Oscar Felegy (third/17:40), sophomore Richard Will (fourth/17:53) and senior Brett Pevec (fifth/ 17:59).
Both teams will return to action on Tuesday, September 27 when they travel to the Pocono Region to take on host East Stroudsburg South, East Stroudsburg North and Stroudsburg.
