The Emmaus boys cross country team remained unbeaten on the season, while their female counterparts suffered their first loss in yesterday’s meet held at the Lehigh Parkway vs EPC foes Easton, Nazareth and Northampton.
With seven of their runners finishing in the top 10, the boys improved to 12-0 on the season after defeating Easton (21-39), Nazareth (15-48) and Northampton (15-50). The Hornets join both rivals Parkland and Central Catholic as the lone unbeatens in the EPC.
Sophomore David Hearn was the Hornets top place winner finishing second in a time of 17:59. Classmate Roen Woolf was just seconds behind placing third (18:01), while senior Ryan Fach was fourth (18:03), juniors Matt Sirignano (18:10) and Zach Zappile (18:11) fifth and sixth, respectively, while sophomore Michael Carwell was seventh (18:13)
In the girl’s race, Emmaus defeated both Nazareth (18-41) and Northampton (15-50) but tasted defeat for the first time after falling to a strong and unbeaten Easton squad (21-34).
The Red Rovers claimed the top three finishers in the race with sophomore Lyla Knoble finishing first overall in a time 19:38.
Senior Madelyn McCartney finished fourth overall (20:26) to lead the Hornets, who dropped to 11-1 on the season. Juniors Grace Nosal (20:34) and Isabella Alwine-Balliro (20:45) were fifth and eighth, respectively, while senior Olivia Fleck (20:46) placed ninth overall.
Both teams will return to action on Thursday at 2 p.m. as they compete in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
