Seniors Madelyn McCartney and Ryan Fach highlighted just two of a number of Emmaus cross country runners that posted career best times on Senior Day in the Hornets final regular-season meet of the season held yesterday at Camp Olympic.

“The boys and girls teams ended up 16-1 for the season, which is an incredible feat for both teams,” said head coach Kami Reinhard. “It has been an exhausting past week of racing with three races in seven days, which is even more impressive for both teams. We want to continuously recognize that our focus is on our own team and our growth.

“We had 24 athletes who posted lifetime best times at this meet, on a difficult course, which is simply outstanding. We truly could not be prouder of how the regular season ended.”

The girls had a perfect day, going unbeaten against five league opponents, including rival Parkland 23-35.

McCartney once again shined as she set a new course record finishing first in a time of 17:55. Classmate Olivia Fleck also had a strong race placing in the top five (19:58).

“Mady had a wonderful senior night performance, again crushing the course record by 40 seconds,” said Reinhard. “Olivia also shined for the team with a fourth-place finish.”

Juniors Isabella Alwine-Balliro and Grace Nosal finished fifth and sixth, respectively, while freshmen Myla Felegy and Nitzana Jamaica also cracked the top 10 with Felegy placing eighth and Jamaica ninth.

In the boy’s race, the Hornets tasted defeat for the first time falling to rival Parkland 23-38, while picking up wins over CCHS, Whitehall, Allen and Dieruff.

Fach, who set a new PR of 16:27, finished runner-up just seconds behind Parkland junior Colin McGuigan (16:25).

“Ryan had a stellar senior night performance running his lifetime best,” said Reinhard. “Sophomore Roen Woolf (third/16:28) and Ryan stuck together and fought throughout the entire race for their team. It was a joy and beautiful moment to watch two top runners work together at the top.”

“It was a great and highly competitive day of racing among all teams.”

The seniors honored for Emmaus included: Lexie Doemling, Rylie Finck, Olivia Fleck, Emma Gerhart, Amanda Gulliver, Sarah Longbons, Madelyn McCartney and Morgan Schuler; Anthony Cicconetti, Adriano Clements, Noah Edge, Ryan Fach and Jackson LaRussa.

Both teams will return to action on October 15 at the EPC Championships held at DeSales University.
