A 16-year-old school Emmaus High School record was shattered in the Hornets cross country meet at Louise Moore Park in Easton against EPC foes Freedom, Bethlehem Catholic and Liberty on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Madelyn McCartney’s time of 17 minutes and 35 seconds is now tops at the school, breaking the previous mark by 22 seconds held back in 2008 by former Hornet standout Lindsey Graybill.
McCartney’s record day performance led the girl’s squad as they improved to 9-0 on the season with wins over Freedom (23-38), Becahi (15-50) and Liberty (24-34).
The Hornets had three other runners finish in the top 10 with junior Grace Nosal finishing 6th (19.51), senior Olivia Fleck 7th (19.52) and junior Isabella Alwine-Balliro 8th (20.16).
Not to be outdone by their female counterparts, the boys also remained unbeaten at 9-0 on after defeating Freedom (15-50), Liberty (18-46) and Becahi (15-50).
Emmaus senior Ryan Fach just edged out teammate sophomore David Hearn at the finish for top honors finishing in a time of 16.37.
Sophomore Roen Wolf also had a strong race placing third (16.48), while classmate Michael Carwell was two spots back at fifth (17.21).
Both teams will return to action on September 30 at 4:45 p.m. at Lehigh Parkway as they take on Easton, Nazareth, Whitehall and Northampton.
