RECAP >> Despite suffering their first losses of the season, both the Emmaus girls’ and boys’ cross country teams enjoyed an outstanding day of running at yesterday’s meet held at Nazareth Intermediate School.

“This was just an awesome race to watch among all of the teams who raced today,” said Emmaus coach Kami Reinhard. “For our boys, 36 out of the 41 raced their lifetime best, while 24 out of the 29 girls also raced their lifetime best.”

“Though we don’t base races solely on time, due to course distances and such, these efforts and performances reflect that we performed our very best as a team.”

The girls, who entered the day with a 6-0 record, lost a tight one to rival and undefeated Easton (26-29), but did defeat both Nazareth (18-43) and Northampton (15-48).

Four Hornets finished in the top 10 with junior Madelyn McCartney once again leading the pack in a time of 17:58. Senior Payton Campbell was third (18:52), followed by classmate Isabella Scarlata (8th/19:59), and junior Olvia Fleck (9th/20:00).

The boys, who were also 6-0, dropped their first race of the season falling to unbeaten Nazareth (25-31), while picking up wins over Easton (21-36) and Northampton (15-50).

Senior Conor Fisher led the Hornets with a third-place finish crossing the finish line in a time of 16:25. Fellow seniors Jared Petre (6th/16:49) and Rirchard Will (7th/16:51) along with junior Ryan Fach (8th/16:52) all finished in the top 10.

“We are proud of our kids, and we learned a lot today,” said Reinhard. “We have some work to do, and we continue to keep our focus on staying healthy.”

Both teams will return to action on October 1 at 4 p.m. as they travel to Whitehall Parkway to take on Pleasant Valley, Pocono Mountain East and West.
