Five players from the Emmaus field hockey team were honored on Monday as the Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches Association (PHSFHCA) announced its 2018 All-State teams.
Head coach Sue Butz Stavin’s team was well represented with seniors Kacie Patton and Kayla Kisthardt along with sophomore Annika Herbine being named to the first team, while seniors Riley Baughman and Claire Nielsen making the second team.
Patton was named to the first team for the third straight season, while Kisthardt was selected for the second straight year. Kisthardt was also a second team selection in 2016. Both players will continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level with Patton heading to St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and Kisthardt attending Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
Herbine, who finished second on the team in goals (45), assists (28) and points (118), was named for the first time.
Nielsen was selected to the second team after an outstanding season which included 21 shutouts. She was also a second team selection as a sophomore. Following graduation, she’ll continue her academic and athletic career at West Chester University.
Baughman, who led the Hornets in goals (47), assists (44) and points (138), was named for the first time. She’ll also be attending West Chester University.
Emmaus also had a strong representation on the academic squad with eight players being named. Kisthardt was a repeat selection along with fellow seniors Joy Muller, Kristen Zellner and Sarah Will along with juniors Liz Mazzella, Kaitlyn Csensits, Catherine Gallagher and Victoria Rivera. Emmaus was also recognized with the team GPA Award.
