RECAP >> The Emmaus field hockey team did all of its scoring in last night’s District XI Class 3A semifinal at Nazareth High School in the first half as the Hornets defeated Liberty for the third time this season, 4-0.

Junior Annika Herbine scored a pair of her goals – Nos. 28 and Nos.29 – to lead the Hornets who will look to win their incredible 31st straight title in Wednesday’s championship game scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at the Zephyr Sports Complex at Whitehall High School.

Awaiting top-seeded and undefeated Emmaus (23-0) will be third-seeded Easton, which shutout Stroudsburg 2-0 in the other semifinal. The Hornets will face the Red Rovers for the third straight year in the finals. Both teams are also headed to the PIAA State Tournament.

Freshman Rachel Herbine scored her team-leading 50th goal of the season in the win, while junior Mackenzie Bruns found the back of the cage just 23 seconds into the contest with her 15th goal to give Emmaus a quick 1-0 lead. Mackenzie’s sister, Madison Bruns, had a game-high two assists.

Emmaus dominated Liberty, the No.4 seed, not only on the scoreboard, but also statistically as they out shot the Hurricane by a wide 27-1 margin and 17-1 advantage in penalty corners. In goal for the Hornets, junior Bailey Tietz picked up the shutout win, her 16th of the season.
