RECAP >> The streak continues !!!

The Emmaus field hockey team kept alive its amazing streak of winning district gold on a rainy Wednesday night at the Zephyr Sports Complex at Whitehall High School as the Hornets defeated Easton 4-1 to capture its 31st straight District XI Class 3A championship.

Emmaus, which defeated the Red Rovers for the third straight year in the finals, did all of its scoring in the first half as freshman Rachel Herbine, senior Kaitlyn Csensits, and juniors Madison Bruns and Annika Herbine all scored goals for the Hornets.

The victory helped Emmaus remain unbeaten on the season as they improved to 24-0 overall. They also defeated Easton for the second time this season by the same 4-1 score.

The Red Rovers (19-4) lone goal of the game came on a penalty stroke from senior Olivia Watson.

Emmaus held a 2-to-1 advantage in shots on goal (14-7), while the Red Rovers out-cornered the Hornets 16-7. Junior Bailey Tietz had seven saves in goal for Emmaus and her counterpart, senior Dani Swallow was credited with 10 stops.

Up next for the Hornets will be the PIAA State playoffs, which get underway at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday at Nazareth High School. Emmaus will face the fifth-place team from District One – either Garnet Valley or Souderton.

Easton is also headed to the state tournament and will take on the District One runner-up – the loser of Plymouth Whitemarsh and Downingtown West.
