RECAP >> A weeklong absence from game action didn’t stop Emmaus from continuing its winning ways as the Hornets picked up a pair of wins this week.
Facing an Easton team that it has met the last four years in the District XI Class 3A title game, Emmaus was in a battle with the Red Rovers before eventually prevailing for a hard-fought 3-1 victory on the road Thursday.
Junior Ava Zerfass scored a pair of goals to lead the offense for the Hornets who led 2-0 before Easton cut the deficit in half in the second quarter on a penalty stroke by sophomore Jocelyn Morgan.
Junior Abby Burnett also scored her first goal of the season and added an assist in the win. In goal, sophomore Emma Cari came up with three saves.
Emmaus outshot Easton 27-5 and held an 11-3 advantage in penalty corners.
On Saturday, five different players scored goals as the Hornets rolled to a 9-0 win over Northampton at home at Memorial Field.
Zerfass scored a hat trick and added two assists, while Burnett also registered three goals for Emmaus which outshot the K-Kids by an incredible 42-0 margin.
Junior Rachel Herbine added a game-high three assists and also scored her 10th goal of the season while senior Lexi Kociban and freshman Autum Kernechel each added a goal and one assist.
Emmaus will return to action this week with three games: Monday vs Freedom (Home/6:30 p.m.), Wednesday vs East Stroudsburg South (Home/6:30 p.m.) and Saturday vs Hershey (Away/10 a.m.)
