Three Emmaus fall sports teams will return to action this week with hopes of bringing home more hardware as the District XI playoffs resume.
Field hockey and boys soccer, both coming off of winning Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championships, will look to add a second trophy – a district title – while the girls volleyball will also look to claim gold for the first time in more than two decades.
Head coach Sue Butz-Stavin’s team (22-0 overall) will be aiming for its incredible 31st straight title this week as they take on Liberty for the third time this season in the semifinals on Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Nazareth High School. A win by Emmaus will advance them to Wednesday’s title game against the winner of No.3 Easton and No. 7 Stroudsburg. A victory would also earn the Hornets a berth in the PIAA State Tournament.
While the field hockey team will look to continue its amazing streak of winning district titles, the boys soccer team will be looking for its first since 2016. Head coach John Cari’s team (19-3) will be in action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at J. Birney Crum Stadium as they take on fifth-seeded Stroudsburg (12-5-2). A win by by the Hornets would send them to their ninth straight title game on Thursday against the winner of No.2 Parkland or No.6 Whitehall and also an entry into states.
The Emmaus girls volleyball team (16-5) will also be in hunt for its first District XI title in 24 years (1995) as they take on Northampton for the third time this season at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Catasauqua High School. The winner advances to Thursday’s title game against the winner of top-seed Liberty and fifth-seeded Parkland. The District XI champion and runner-up will qualify for states.
