RECAP >> Heading into their showdown with the No.1 ranked team in the country, Nazareth head coach Marissa Rotz was hoping to slow down Emmaus’ high-powered offense and pull off the upset.

Wishful thinking, but like all opponents that have tried this season, most have failed.

Led by a four-goal, two-assist effort from senior Rachel Herbine, the Hornets had no trouble in handing Nazareth just its second loss of the season as they cruised to an easy 9-0 win on Wednesday night at home at Memorial Field on Lower Macungie Youth Association (LMYA) night.

With the victory, Emmaus improved to 11-0 overall (10-0 EPC) and recorded their 10th shutout of the season as they’ve now outscored their opponents by an incredible 116-1 margin.

Junior Melea Weber scored a pair of goals – Nos. 16 and 17 on the season – and had an assist in the win, senior Ava Zerfass added her 12th goal and two assists and junior Sarah Schaffer scored her fourth goal of the season and had an assist for the Hornets who outshot Nazareth 45-4 in the game.

In goal for Emmaus, junior Emma Cari posted her 10th shutout of the season making four saves. Her counterpart, junior Mackenzie Mann, was under attack all night long and, despite giving up nine goals, played outstanding with 31 saves.

Emmaus will return to action at Noon on Saturday as they travel to Hazleton for a non-league matchup.
