RECAP >> Emmaus got its first true test of the season last night at Cottingham Stadium in Easton as the Red Rovers became the first team to score against the Hornets as the two teams were tied 1-1 at the half.
But the two-time defending PIAA state champs and the No.1 ranked team in the country proved to be too much in the second half as Emmaus outscored the hosts 3-0 on their way to a 4-1 victory.
Junior Melea Weber shined in the win as she recorded her third hat trick of the season for the Hornets, who improved to 10-0 overall and 9-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
Senior Abby Burnett also scored her 13th goal of the season in the victory. Burnett has now scored goals in five straight games for Emmaus.
Easton, which had tied the game in the second quarter on junior Jocelyn Morgan’s goal, suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the EPC. Easton came into the game outscoring their previous seven opponents 44-2.
Statistically, Emmaus outshot the Red Rovers 24-12 in the game while Easton held a 13-10 advantage in penalty corners. Hornets junior goalie Emma Cari made a season-high eight saves. Her counterpart, senior Macy Wilcox, was credited with 16 stops.
Emmaus will return to action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as they host Nazareth at Memorial Field. The game will be carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com beginning at 6:20 p.m.
