Field Hockey – Hornets make it a perfect 4-for-4 against Easton with 9-1 rout of Red Rovers in District XI 3A semis; Up next: rival Parkland in Saturday’s championship game

RECAP >> Twice this season, Easton has been one of just two opponents to score against the juggernaut Emmaus field hockey team.

But that’s hardly mattered for the Red Rovers, because they still haven’t figured out a way to defeat the Hornets.

Not that many teams have.

In the fourth meeting between the two teams and with a berth in the championship and PIAA State Tournament on the line, the 32-time defending District XI champs had no trouble making it a perfect 4-for-4 against Easton as Emmaus rolled to a 9-1 rout in last night’s Class 3A semifinal at the Zephyr Sports Complex at Whitehall High School.

Six different players scored goals for head coach Sue Butz-Stavin’s team as they remained unbeaten on the season at 23-0 overall.

The victory advances Emmaus to Saturday’s 3 p.m. final back at Whitehall against rival Parkland, which defeated Nazareth in the other semifinal. The Hornets have already defeated the Trojans twice this season (5-0 and 2-0) and will be aiming for their incredible 33rd straight championship. Emmaus will also have an opportunity to defend its state title from a year ago.

Junior Rachel Herbine and senior Lexi Kociban both scored a pair of goals in the victory for Emmaus, which outshot Easton 28-2 and held a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners in the contest.

Sophomore Haley Kvacky and senior Kyleigh Faust each tallied one goal and one assist, while junior Abby Burnett and senior Jenna Villeneuve both had two assists. In goal, sophomore Emma Cari picked up the win with one save.

Easton’s lone goal of the night came in the third quarter from senior Sophie Emin. The Red Rovers ended the season at 16-7 overall.
