RECAP >> Sophomore Rachel Herbine’s goal in overtime was the game-winner as Emmaus went on the road and rallied for a 2-1 non-league win over District 2’s Wyoming Area on the grass Saturday afternoon.
Herbine scored her seventh goal of the season off an assist from junior Alexis Kociban 1 minute, 9 seconds into the 7-vs-7 extra session as the Hornets, despite giving up their first goal of the year, remained unbeaten after improving to 5-0.
Emmaus had trailed in the contest for the first time all season after the Warriors, a state semifinalist in Class 1A a year ago, had taken a 1-0 lead in the first quarter on a Toni Minichello goal.
The Hornets would respond, however, after halftime as Kociban tied the game at 1-1 with her ninth goal off an assist from senior Annika Herbine, the team-leader with 10 assists.
Neither team had many shots on goal in the game with each taking three. Senior Bailey Tietz had two saves in cage for the Hornets, while her counterpart, Carly Saranchuk, was credited with one. Emmaus held a two-to-one advantage in corners 12-6
The two teams will meet again on Saturday, October 17 at 1 p.m. at Emmaus’ Memorial Field.
The Hornets will be off until October 13 when they travel to Whitehall to take on the Zephyrs at 7 p.m.
