RECAP >> After a long 11-day layoff since winning its eighth straight Eastern Pennsylania Conference championship, Emmaus came out slow in its District XI Class 3A semifinal round game against rival Parkland last night at the Zephyr Sports Complex in Whitehall.

The Hornets, who last played on October 20 at Whitehall against Nazareth in the EPC final, led by just a 2-0 score at halftime against a Trojans team which it was facing for the third time this season.

But the country’s top-ranked team according to MAX Field Hockey, kicked things into high gear following the break as they scored four goals in third quarter and rolled to an 8-0 victory and a berth in the championship game.

Emmaus (22-0 overall) will be looking to keep its incredible streak of consecutive district titles alive as they aim for the program’s 34th straight crown at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday back at Whitehall taking on second-seeded Easton, which defeated Nazareth 2-1 in the other semifinal. The Hornets also guaranteed themselves a spot in the PIAA Class 3A Tournament where they’ve won back-to-back state titles.

Junior Melea Weber led Emmaus in scoring in last night’s win with her fifth hat trick of the season, while seniors Rachel Herbine and Abby Burnett each scored a pair of goals. Sophomore Autum Kernechel added her sixth goal of the season in the win. In goal, junior Emma Cari posted her 17th shutout of the season.
