Emmaus began defense of its streak of winning District XI championships as the Hornets rolled to a 7-0 win over Liberty in the opening round of the playoffs on Thursday afternoon at Memorial Field.

Winners of 35 straight titles, Emmaus received two goals each from senior Autum Kernechel and sophomores Madison Lenig and Gracie Huffer as they defeated the Hurricane for the third time this season in improving to 21-1 overall.

Emmaus dominated not only on the scoreboard, but also on the stat sheet as they outshot Liberty 42-0 and 21-0 in penalty corners. Junior Aiko Price and sophomore Emily Romano both saw action in goal for the Hornets, while Liberty’s Abigail Mayes was busy all game long making 28 saves.

The Hurricane ended their season with a 9-11 record.

Up next for the Hornets will be rival Parkland in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Zephyr Sports Complex in Whitehall. This will be the third meeting between the two rivals with Emmaus winning the previous two matchups, 6-0 and 4-0. The winner will advance to the District XI championship and also clinch a berth in the PIAA State Tournament.
