Field Hockey – Solano’s third quarter goal proves to be the difference as Hornets defeat Easton for the second time in a week 2-1. RECAP

For the second time in a week, Easton gave Emmaus everything they could handle.

Last Monday, at Memorial Field when the two teams met for the first time in league play, the Hornets were able to break away from the Red Rovers after a scoreless first half to win 2-0.

With the venue switching to Easton’s Cottingham Stadium last night, Easton once again hung around, but in the end Emmaus was once again able to prevail with a 2-1 non-conference victory.

Sophomore Sharlise Solano’s fourth goal of the season, off an assist from junior Autum Kernechel, in the third quarter proved to be the game-winner as the Hornets swept both regular-season meetings from the Red Rovers.

With the victory, Emmaus ups their overall record to 11-1, while Easton drops to 10-2.

Junior Emmy Horner got the scoring started for the Hornets with her eighth goal of the season in the first quarter off of a penalty corner giving her team a 1-0 lead at the break.

Solano’s goal was a big one as the Hornets built a 2-0 lead before Easton cut the margin in half just minutes later on senior Lexi Causa’s goal.

For the game, Emmaus outshot Easton 17-8 with the Hornets holding a slim 8-7 advantage in penalty corners. Senior Emma Cari was credited with five saves in goal for the Hornets, while senior Madison Poplawksi made seven stops for the Red Rovers.

Emmaus will be back in action on Thursday at 6 p.m. as they travel to Liberty (4-3-1 EPC/5-3-1overall).
