Emmaus’ pursuit of an 11th straight Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship got off to a good start on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field as the Hornets rolled to a 5-0 win over Stroudsburg in the quarterfinals.
Five different players scored goals in the victory for head coach Sue Butz-Stavin’s team who posted its 14th shutout of the season.
With the win, top-seed Emmaus (18-1) advances to the semifinals on Tuesday at Whitehall High School to face fifth-seeded Nazareth, which eliminated fourth-seeded Northampton 3-2 in overtime. The other semifinal will pit No. 2 Easton vs No. 3 Parkland.
Senior Addison Povilaitis had a hand in three of the team’s five goals on the day as she scored her ninth goal of the season while also assisting on two others.
Junior Gracie Huffer also added a goal and an assist, and classmate Madi Lenig added a pair of assists.
Emmaus dominated Stroudsburg statistically outshooting the Mounties 33-3 and 15-2 in penalty corners. In goal, junior Emily Romano picked up the win for the Hornets with three saves. Her counterpart, Tess Nowosad was busy stopping 26 shots.
