Field Hockey – Weber and Herbine power Emmaus to 34th straight District XI Championship as Hornets defeat Easton 8-3

RECAP >> Another year and another District XI Class 3A championship for head coach Sue Butz-Stavin’s team.

‘The Streak’ now stands at 34 straight.

The nation’s No.1 ranked team didn’t let an early one-goal deficit phase them in Thursday night’s title game at the Zephyr Sports Complex in Whitehall as the Hornets scored early and often in rolling to an 8-3 win over Easton.

Junior Melea Weber had a big night in leading Emmaus’ high-powered offense as she tallied a hat trick to go along with a pair of assists as the Hornets scored at least two goals in every quarter in defeating the Red Rovers for the second time this season and for the third time in the last four district finals.

The title was the 38th overall in program history and extends Emmaus’ win streak to 67 straight games. They will now begin their quest for a third straight PIAA Class 3A championship at home at Memorial Field on Tuesday in the opening-round of states against a familiar foe, Methacton the fifth-place team from District One. The game will be carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com. Emmaus defeated the Warriors a season ago, 2-1 in the second round of states.

Senior Rachel Herbine also had a hat trick in the win over Easton, while classmates Ava Zerfass and Abby Burnett each had a goal and an assist. In goal, junior Emma Cari picked up the win making three saves.

Easton (19-3) was led by junior Jocelyn Morgan who scored all three of her team’s goals. Teammate senior Gabby Lanier assisted on two of those three scores. Goalie Macy Wilcox was credited with 12 saves in the loss for the Red Rovers who will take on Great Valley, the third-place team from District One in states.
