Football – Easton spoils Emmaus’ Homecoming/Senior Night handing the Hornets their second loss of the season with 17-13 come-from-behind win.

RECAP >> It wasn’t the same type of pain from a year ago, but the feeling felt almost similar for Emmaus last night as they watched Easton celebrate yet another win on their home field.

The visiting Red Rovers, who last year ended the Hornets season with a 28-23 in the opening round of the District XI playoffs, did it again last night as they spoiled Homecoming and Senior Night at East Penn School District Stadium by stunning the Hornets with a 17-13 come-from-behind victory.

Easton rallied from a 13-3 deficit in third quarter scoring 14 unanswered points as they won their fourth straight game while snapping the Hornets five-game win streak.

The Red Rovers improved to 5-2 on the season, while Emmaus suffered its first loss at home and dropped to 7-2.

Senior quarterback Cole Transue led the comeback for Easton throwing a pair of touchdowns in the second half, including the game-winner — 31 yards to classmate Kyle Evancho early in the fourth quarter. Transue finished the night with 211 yards through the air, the most allowed by Emmaus this season.

Junior running back Aidan Hutchison, filling in for the injured Marcus Williams who had four touchdowns in last year’s win over Emmaus, had a game-high 84 yards on the ground on 26 carries.

Emmaus had jumped out to a 10-point lead with a little over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter on senior wide recevier Tyson Karrat’s first career touchdown pass to senior Jared Groller on a fleaflicker covering 49 yards. Karrat was also involved in the Hornets only other score of the night, a 19-yard TD reception from sophomore Josiah Williams with two minutes left before the half.

The 13 points scored by Emmaus was their second lowest output of the season.

Junior linebacker Aidan Garrett led the Hornets defense with six tackles while fellow junior free safety Ryan DeJohn had five.

Easton outgained Emmaus 339-285 in total yards. The Hornets were hurt by two turnovers in the game.

Emmaus will close out the regular-season next Friday when they travel to rival Parkland (7-1). The game will be carried Live on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
