RECAP >> Emmaus got all they could handle last night from Whitehall and former offensive coordinator Matt Senneca, but the Hornets were able to survive and remain unbeaten on the season as they pulled out a 27-19 win at the Zephyr Sports Stadium Complex in Whitehall. The game was carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com.

Senior quarterback Jacob Fotta had an outstanding game in leading the offense and the Emmaus defense came up with a big turnover late in the game on senior free safety Ryan DeJohn’s interception as the Hornets avoided the upset to start their season at 3-0 for the second time in the last three years. The victory also marked the fifth straight year that Emmaus has defeated Whitehall.

Fotta completed 10-of-12 for 149 yards and matched his career-best for touchdowns in the game with three, including the game-winner, a 65-yard scoring strike to senior wide receiver Dylan Darville in the fourth quarter that proved to be the difference. Darville had a career-high six receptions and senior wideout Chase Fotta had a career-best 99 yards receiving on three receptions.

Senior running back Tylik Jarvis had 70 yards on the ground for Emmaus and scored his first touchdown of the season on a 6-yard run in the second quarter.

Defensively, Emmaus was tested all night long against Whitehall’s up-tempo offense. For the first time this season an opponent was able to score against the Hornets in the second half as the Zephyrs got a 4-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Trey Dogmanits to classmate wideout Braden Bashore in the fourth quarter to make it a one score game.

Senior lineback Aidan Garrett had four tackles and five assists to lead Emmaus, while junior DL Mario Landino also had four tackles and two assists. Senior cornerback Elijah Fajardo had his first career interception in the first quarter.

Whitehall, which was coming off a 33-22 come-from-behind win over Liberty, dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss. Dogmanits finished 23-for-42 with 236 yards and a pair of touchdown passes for the Zephyrs. He also threw two interceptions. Junior wide receiver Jack Kocher had eight receptions for 89 yards.

Emmaus will return to action next Friday at 7 p.m. as they return home to East Penn School District Stadium to host winless East Stroudsburg North (0-3).
