Liberty was the team that ended Emmaus’ magical season a year ago in the District XI Class 6A playoffs.
Gabby DeVita and her teammates remembered that feeling of bitter disappointment walking off the court at Whitehall High School.
The Emmaus senior, who’s closing in on personal milestone, wasn’t about to let that same feeling happen again when the two teams met last night in a key Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matchup.
DeVita pumped in a season-high 20 points and moved within 13 points of 1,000 for her career leading a balanced scoring attack as the Hornets cruised to an easy 72-40 rout of the Hurricane at Liberty High School.
The win was the fifth straight for Emmaus, which remained unbeaten in the EPC at 5-0 and 5-1 overall. It was also the third consecutive game where head coach Avon Mack’s team has eclipsed the 70-point mark.
Sophomore Gracie Ervin added 12 points in the victory, while senior Sierra Stevens matched her career-high with 11 points and classmate Olive Whitney added a season-best 10 points for the Hornets who had a season-high 10 3-pointers in the game.
Liberty (3-2 EPC/3-3 overall) was led by senior Ava Kopetskie who scored half of her team’s points finishing with 20 in the game.
Emmaus will return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. as they host Dieruff. The game will be carried LIVE on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network beginning with pregame coverage at 6:45 p.m.
