Perfection!
It’s not often been done, if it all, in the history of the program, but the 2024-25 Emmaus girls basketball team completed an incredible regular season run through the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference as the Hornets defeated Whitehall 61-38 last night, capping a perfect 16-0 record.
The win was 18th straight for first year head coach Avon Mack’s team, who improved to 21-1 overall on the season. The 21 wins is the fourth most for the program since the 2000-2001 season.
Emmaus, which hasn’t lost since falling to the state’s No. 1 ranked team Hazleton nearly two months ago, shook off a sluggish first half and then used a 26-3 third quarter to break the game wide open and cruise to the 23-point road win.
Junior Gabby DeVita led the Hornets in scoring for the fourth time in the last five games as she pumped in a game-high 23 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Also, in the victory, sophomore Kayla Snyder drained three 3-pointers and added 17 for Emmaus, which outscored the Whitehall 41-21 after halftime.
The Zephyrs were led by Jade Alvarez who had a team-high 11 points. Whitehall lost for the seventh time in their last games as they ended their season at 7-15 overall and 4-12 in the EPC.
Up next for Emmaus will be the EPC Tournament, which gets underway on Friday. The Hornets will be the No. 1 seed and host eighth-seeded Central Catholic at 6 p.m. The two teams have met twice this season with Emmaus winning both contests, 56-50 and 53-48.
