Girls Basketball – Emmaus’ woes against Nazareth continue as they let big early lead slip away in falling to the Blue Eagles for the 16th straight time, 53-38.

RECAP >> In an early-season showdown between two teams that are expected to be right in the thick of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, it was Emmaus that come out-red hot last night at home as they built as much as a 15 point lead early into the second quarter visiting Nazareth.

But that lead quickly disappeared as the Blue Eagles dominated the rest of the way and wound up coming away with their own 15 point advantage, while also continuing their mastery over the Hornets with a 53-38 come-from-behind victory.

Nazareth, which extended its win streak to 16 straight games over Emmaus, clamped down on the defensive end after allowing 22 points in the first quarter as they gave up as just 16 points over the final three quarters.

The Blue Eagles had a balanced scoring attack with three players – seniors Sam Baker, juniors Renee Wells and Peyton Long – each scoring 12 points, while two others – sophomore Alexa Davis and senior Sophie Cole – added nine and eight points, respectively.

For Emmaus, freshman Kayla Snyder led the way for the third straight game with a team-high 13 points, while senior Taylor Griffith drained four 3-pointers and finished with 12.

Nazareth improved to 2-0 in the EPC and 3-1 overall, while Emmaus dropped to 1-1 in the league and 1-2 overall.

The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Allen to take on the Canaries at 7 p.m.
