At Emmaus on Monday night, the Hornets raced out to a 17-0 lead and were never challenged as they closed out their EPC regular-season routing Whitehall for the second time this season 61-14.
Eleven (11) different players figured into the scoring column for head coach Avon Mack’s team who finished 17-5 overall and 14-2 in the league. The Hornets have now gone 30-2 the last two years in the EPC.
Senior Gabby DeVita scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the first half to lead Emmaus. DeVita also moved into No. 6 on the all-time scoring list for girls’ basketball players at the school passing Melissa Grossman’s mark of 1,234 points back in 1998.
Sophomore Eva Glover added 11 points in the win, while senior Seirra Stevens added nine for the Hornets, who held the Zephyrs without a field goal in the first half in building a commanding 39-5 lead at the break.
Whitehall was led in scoring by senior Jaylene Wilson who scored half of her team’s points tallying seven on the night. The Zephyrs, who committed 32 turnovers in the game, dropped eight of their last nine games and ended their season at 5-11 in the league and 7-14 overall.
Up next for Emmaus will be the EPC Tournament, which gets underway on Friday. The defending champs will be the No. 2 seed and host Central Catholic at 6 p.m. on Friday. Emmaus has already beaten the Vikettes twice this season. The two teams are meeting for the second consecutive season in the opening round with the Hornets winning last year’s meeting 54-35.
