Girls Basketball – Hornets end long losing streak to Northampton, remain unbeaten in the EPC with 46-40 come-from-behind victory; Inman, De Vita and Whitney all play key roles in win

RECAP >> A streak of 15 consecutive losses came to an end for the Emmaus girls basketball team last night as the Hornets started off the new year with a thrilling 46-40 win over Northampton before an electrifying crowd at ‘The Hive.’

After not having beaten the K-Kids since the 2013-14 season, Emmaus was able earn the hard-fought victory and remain one of three unbeatens in the EPC – along with Easton and Parkland – as they improved to 6-0 in the league and 9-2 overall.

The Hornets outscored Northampton 16-7 in the fourth quarter after trailing 33-30 at the end of the third to pull away for the win.

Senior Paige Inman got it done on both ends of the floor leading the team with 14 points while also doing an outstanding defensive job on the K-Kids 1,000 point scorer, senior Grace Lesko, who despite scoring a game-high 23 points, managed just five field goals with most of her points coming from the free-throw line. For her efforts, Inman was named the SportClips Player of the Game on The Eastern Pa. Sports Network broadcast of the game.

Also in the victory, two freshmen came up big for the Hornets with Gabby De Vita draining three 3-pointers and finishing with 11 points and classmate Olive Whitney coming off the bench and providing a spark with two 3-pointers and eight points.

Senior Nicole Yellen added 12 points in the loss for Northampton which fell to 5-5 overall and 1-4 in the EPC. After a 4-1 start to their season, the K-Kids have dropped four of their last five.

Emmaus will be back in action on Friday with a tough road test as they travel to Pocono Summit to take on Pocono Mountain West (5-1/8-1). Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
