RECAP >> Going on the road and facing the defending District XI Class 6A champs proved to be too much for Emmaus Thursday night as the Hornets saw their season come to an end following a 47-24 loss to Nazareth in the quarterfinal round.
The Blue Eagles outscored the Hornets in three of the four quarters as they cruised to the 23-point win in improving to 14-1 overall. Emmaus, which was coming off its first win in the post-season in seven years – 42-25 vs Pleasant Valley on Tuesday – closed the books on a 5-8 campaign.
The game marked the final one in the careers of the team’s seven seniors – Bianca Rollins, Gabrielle Martin, Stephanie Klemick, Marah Sisonick, Tyerra Jarvis, Lindsay Foster and Alexia Stephanides.
Nazareth led 13-7 after one quarter, but Emmaus was able to hang around to get within six (18-12) with 3:33 left in the second before the Blue Eagles went on a 10-1 run to close out the quarter and open up a 15-point lead (28-13) at the break. The lead grew to as much as 29 (44-15) after the home team outscored the Hornets 16-2 in the third.
Sophomore Paige Inman led Emmaus in scoring with a team-high six points, while Martin was next with five.
Nazareth was led by Madeline Ahearn who had a game-high 12 points on four 3-pointers. Junior Marina Falzone added eight, while the Blue Eagles leading scorer Talya Brugler was limited to just seven.
