Girls Basketball – Hornets pick up first win over rival Parkland in more than a decade, rally to defeat the Trojans 56-48 in home regular-season finale

RECAP >> A big early deficit wasn’t going to stop Emmaus from picking up one of its biggest wins in recent history last night against their arch-rival.

Trailing Parkland, the defending District XI Class 6A champs by as many as 14 points early in the second quarter, the Hornets went on to outscore the visitors 48-29 on their way to an impressive 56-48 come-from-behind win in their regular-season home finale at ‘The Hive.’

The victory was the first for Emmaus over Parkland since defeating the Trojans back in the 2011-12 season, 33-30.

Senior Paige Inman led the balanced scoring attack as she finished with a team-high 17 points for the Hornets who won their third straight in improving to 10-5 in the EPC and 13-8 overall. The 13 wins is the most by Emmaus since 2011-12 when they finished 15-8.

Also in the victory, junior Mya Cooper matched her season-high with 13 points, while classmate Taylor Griffith added 11 and sophomore Sofie Laird a career-high seven points off the bench.

Emmaus was clutch from the free-throw line with one of their best efforts of the season hitting on 67 percent (16 of 24) compared to Parkland’s 57 percent (8 of 14).

Parkland, which has dropped six of its last nine games, was led in scoring by junior Talia Zurinskas who had four 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 18 points. Junior Madison Siggins added 10 and senior Alexis Brader nine for the Trojans who dropped to 12-3 in the EPC and 14-7 overall.

Emmaus will close out the regular-season on Monday at 7 p.m. as they travel to Rockne Hall in Allentown to take on Central Catholic.
