RECAP>> Emmaus rallied from a 10-point deficit at the half in its season-opener against Boyertown and had the game tied at 26-all heading to the fourth quarter, but the Bears proved to be too much over the final eight minutes as they pulled away for a 49-42 non-league win over the Hornets.

Boyertown got a combined 35 points between junior Ashley Kapp who led all scorers with a game-high 21 points and senior Amber Marburger who chipped in 14. The Bears shot an outstanding 85 percent (23 of 27) from the free-throw line, including converting on a number key free throws down the stretch.

Emmaus had no player reach double figures, but senior Alyssa Burkhart did lead the team with eight points. Freshman Keziah Brantley added seven points in her first career varsity start for the Hornets who drained eight 3-pointers in the game.

The loss dropped Emmaus to 0-1 on the season and it was the 15th consecutive defeat for the program dating back to last season.

The Hornets will look to bounce back this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in another non-league game as they travel to Northwestern Lehigh. The Tigers also dropped their season-opener, falling to Whitehall 41-38 on a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Penn Sports Radio will have Live action of today’s game beginning at 2:15 p.m. with the pregame show. Tony Sibilla will have the call on www.pennsportsradio.com.
