In the first meeting between rivals Emmaus and Parkland before the holidays, it was the Hornets using a strong defensive effort at home in the second half to pull away for a six-point victory.

Last night, it was the Trojans coming up with stops on defense late in the game as they turned the tables on the Hornets.

Parkland overcame a three-point deficit after three quarters by outscoring Emmaus 16-6 in the game’s final eight minutes as they evened the regular-season series by rallying for a 58-51 win at Parkland High School.

Senior Aneri McGalla provided a spark off the bench as she scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Trojans to their fifth straight win while snapping the Hornets four-game win streak.

Parkland pulled even with Emmaus in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference standings with both teams now tied for third at 13-2, trailing only undefeated Easton (15-0) and Bethlehem Catholic (14-1). All four teams will get first round home games when the league tournament gets underway next Friday.

In a losing effort, senior Gabby DeVita led Emmaus (16-5 overall) and all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Classmates Olive Whitney and Sierra Stevens each chipped in 10 points and sophomore Eva Glover added nine.

For Parkland, senior Isabella Hallal added 16 for the Trojans who improved to 15-4 overall.

Emmaus will close out its regular-season on Monday at home at 7 p.m. as they host Whitehall (5-11 EPC/7-14 overall)
