RECAP >> Looking to remain one of three unbeatens in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, Emmaus was unable to score in the final 3:53 of last night’s game at Pocono Mountain West and as a result, the Hornets suffered their first loss in league play, 41-38 defeat to the Panthers.
Emmaus, which entered action tied with both Easton at Parkland at 6-0 in the league, had a chance to tie the game with no time left on the clock in regulation, trailing by three and freshman Olive Whitney on the free-throw line after being fouled on a potential game-tying shot beyond the 3-point arc, but Whitney missed the first free-throw and the game ended.
The Hornets last led in the game was with 5:15 left in the fourth quarter 38-36, but were unable to score the rest of the way as they dropped to 6-1 in the EPC and 9-3 overall.
Senior Paige Inman led Emmaus in scoring with a team-high 13 points, while junior Mya Cooper added 11 and freshman Gabby De Vita eight. The Hornets hurt themselves at the free-throw line shooting just 50 percent (7 of 14).
Reigning league MVP senior Vataijah Davis was a force in the game for PM West (6-1 EPC/9-1 overall) as she accounted for half of her team’s offensive production, finishing with a game-high 23 points, including two key free-throws late in the game which put the Panthers ahead for good.
Emmaus will look to bounce back on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they return home to host Pleasant Valley (3-3 EPC/3-7).
