At the 29th Annual Jack Bennett Easton Rotary Club Basketball Tournament last night, Emmaus had its eight-game win streak snapped as they fell to Easton 52-40 in the championship game.
The Hornets, who were the defending champs and riding an eight-game streak, were held to their lowest point total of the season as they were outscored in three of the four quarters by the Red Rovers.
Senior Gabby DeVita led all scorers with a game-high 21 points for Emmaus, which dropped 8-2 on the season. DeVita and classmate Olive Whitney, who had a career-high 17 points in Monday’s win over Executive Education, were both named to the all-tournament team.
Easton (9-2 overall) had a balanced scoring attack paced by senior Natalie Amato who had four 3-pointers and 16 points. Junior Gabby Wismer added 10, while sophomore Melina Cole added nine and freshman Eva Jordan eight. Amato and Wismer were all tourney selections.
In Monday’s semifinal win over Executive Education, DeVita had a game-high 19 points as the Hornets had to rally for a 57-51 win in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Emmaus trailed by four (41-37) heading into the fourth quarter, but they outscored the Raptors 20-10 to pick up their seventh straight win.
Executive Education (5-2) was led in scoring by Kendall Medina who had a team-high 18 points. Teammates Ashley Hunter-Ali and Nia Bush added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Emmaus will return to action on January 6 when they host Stroudsburg at 7 p.m.
