Girls Lacrosse – Hornets cruise to 20-4 win over rival Parkland in District XI Semis; will face Pleasant Valley for the third time this season in Wednesday’s championship game

RECAP >> Will the third time be the charm for the Emmaus girls’ lacrosse team?

Since falling to Pleasant Valley 11-9 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship game on May 12, the Hornets had hoped that a rematch against the Bears would come in the District XI Class 3A Tournament.

Thanks to last night’s impressive win over rival Parkland in the semifinal, head coach Roxann Betz’s squad will get that chance as Emmaus is headed back to championship night.

Sophomore Jordyn Poll led all scorers with a game-high nine-point effort with five goals and four assists, while teammate senior Julia Cote added five scores as the Hornets rolled to its third win over the Trojans this season, 20-4 last night at Northampton High School.

With the victory, Emmaus (20-4) advances to Wednesday night’s final at Lehigh University at 7 p.m. to take on third-seeded Pleasant Valley, which advanced with a 14-12 win over second-seeded Easton.

The Hornets will be looking to defeat the Bears for the first time this season and they will be in search of the program’s first district championship since 2011. The game will be carried LIVE on www.easternpasportsnetwork.com beginning at 6:40 p.m.

Junior Emily Hollinger and senior Mikayla Viola both scored four goals and added an assist in the win, while sophomore Olivia Schmidt and senior Meredith Shields each scored one goal. Between the pipes, sophomore Alani Shotwell picked up the win.
