RECAP >> A slow start proved costly for Emmaus Thursday night as the Hornets tasted defeat for the first time this season.
In a match-up of the last two unbeatens in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, visiting Easton jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead and the Red Rovers balanced scoring attack proved to be too much as they knocked off Emmaus 13-10 in a very physical game played last night at Memorial Field.
The Krieger sisters – Reese, a sophomore, and Lea, a junior – each scored a hat trick to lead Easton’s attack which saw seven different players score in the contest. The Red Rovers also got an outstanding game in goal from junior Kylee Hager who came up with a number of big saves as they kept their perfect record in tact (11-0 overall/7-0 EPC), while handing the Hornets their first loss (13-1/8-1).
Senior Lindsay Geiger added two goals and an assist in the win and junior Meghan Vizian also added a pair of goals and did a good job winning 12 of 21 draw controls.
For Emmaus, junior Julia Cote scored a pair of goals – Nos. 51 and 52 on the season, sophomore Emily Hollinger added her 42nd and 43rd goals while freshman Jordyn Poll also added two scores, her 22nd and 23rd of the season. Junior Mary Beth Smith had a three-point night with two goals and an assist, while senior Ally Shaffer dished out a game-high four assists to go along with her 15th goal.
Easton led 9-3 at the half scoring the most goals against Emmaus this season. The Hornets were able to battle back after halftime and outscored the Red Rovers 7-4, but the comeback fell short.
Emmaus will look to get back in the win column on Saturday at 11 a.m. as they travel to Wyoming Seminary for a non-league contest.
