Girls Lacrosse – Hornets hang with Easton for a half before Rovers pull away and claim the EPC title defeating Emmaus for the second time this season 10-5

RECAP >> Looking to win its first league title in 10 years, Emmaus hung with top-seeded and unbeaten Easton and trailed by just a two-goal margin at the half, but the Red Rovers proved to be too much in the second half as they defeated the Hornets 10-5 in last night’s Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship game played at Northampton High School.

The loss marked the second time this season that Easton had defeated Emmaus — 13-10 was the score when the two team’s met back on April 29 at Memorial Field.

Junior Julia Cote led the Hornets (16-2 overall) with a pair of goals, her 71st and 72nd of the season, while fellow junior Mikayla Viola added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Emily Hollinger added her 59th goal of the year and senior Rebekah Brosky her 4th. In goal, senior Ellie Ervin was credited with 14 saves.

Easton was led by senior Lindsay Geiger who had six-point night with three goals and three assists. Freshman Jocelyn Morgan also had a hat trick, while the Krieger sisters – Leah, a junior, and Reese, a sophomore – each scored a pair of goals for the Red Rovers who improved to 15-0 on the season.

Up next for Emmaus will be the District XI Class 3A playoffs. The Hornets will be the No.2 seed and have a first-round bye.
