RECAP >> Emmaus and Pleasant Valley have built up quite the rivalry over the last few years in local girls’ lacrosse.
A season ago, the two teams met three times with the Bears winning twice, once during the regular-season, 15-10, and in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference championship game, 11-9
The Hornets won the all-important third meeting as they captured their first District XI title since 2011 with an 11-6 victory.
Last night, however, the Bears got revenge and in the process, gained the the upper hand back in the series.
Pleasant Valley came to Emmaus’ Memorial Field and handed the Hornets a 9-5 loss, capping off an undefeated regular-season in the league (8-0) and keeping their unbeaten mark overall (17-0) in tact.
Sophomore Devon Bush and freshman Rylee Rath combined for eight goals in the win for the Bears with each scoring four times. Defensively, PV held Emmaus to its lowest offensive output of the season behind stout play from sophomore goalie Abygail Borger.
Pleasant Valley led from start to finish scoring the first three goals of the game before Emmaus finally got on the scoreboard with just :36 seconds left in the half on a goal from junior Bri McClain, her 62nd of the season. The Hornets were able to get within two in the second half at 5-3 on back-to-back goals from senior Emily Hollinger (Nos. 78 & 79), but the Bears were able to pull away scoring four of the game’s next six goals.
In the loss both McClain and Hollinger each tallied two goals for Emmaus, which dropped to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the EPC. Sophomore Brooke Patterson also added a goal.
Up next for Emmaus will be the league tournament which gets underway next Wednesday, May 10. The semifinal matchups are expected to be announced in the next couple of days.
