It was a successful season-opener for the Hornets last night at home at Memorial Field as Emmaus beat Pennridge 14-11 in a highly-competitive non-league game.
Six different players registered at least one point in the win for head coach Roxann Betz’s squad, who improved to 1-0 on the season.
Senior Jordyn Poll led the offense with a team-high five goals, while classmates Olivia Schmidt and Bri McClain added hat tricks. Junior Abby DiComes added a goal and an assist and junior Brooke Peterson and sophomore Rylie Poll also added a goal. Between the pipes, senior Alani Shotwell made six saves and junior Devin O’Neil had three.
Pennridge, from the Suburban One Conference, was led by senior midfielder Late Unzicker, a VCU committ, who had five goals. Junior Layla Wurz also had a five-point night with three goals and two assists, classmate Taylor Burkett added had a hat trick, while junior Leah Verespy had a team-high three assists. In goal, junior Anjali Verma made five stops.
Emmaus will return to action on Tuesday as they host rival Pleasant Valley at 6:30 pm in their EPC opener. The Hornets lost to the Bears in the EPC championship game a year ago, 7-3
