One goal games this season have been all too common for the Emmaus girls lacrosse team.
Fortunately for head coach Roxann Betz’s squad, they’ve come out on the winning end more often than not.
Playing on the road at rival Parkland in their regular season finale on Thursday night, the Hornets once again found themselves in a tight, back-and-forth one goal game.
And for the fifth time this season Emmaus was once again able to come away victorious, and this time, doing it in impressive fashion playing one woman down for most of the second half.
Junior Sarah Gross took a pass from teammate senior Abby DiComes and buried the game-winner with just :39 seconds left in the three-minute overtime as the Hornets won a thriller over the Trojans 10-9.
The victory was the third straight for Emmaus, which ended its EPC regular season with a 6-2 mark and 11-6 overall. It was also the sixth straight time that the Hornets have defeated Parkland.
Emmaus had forced the extra session with 0.1 second left in the game when DiComes scored her second goal of the night off a beautiful assist from sophomore McKenna Guzick tying the game at 9-9.
DiComes had a four-point game (2 goals/2 assists), while senior Brooke Peterson also had a big night with a hat trick. Gross wound up with a pair of goals in the win and Guzick scored a goal and an assist. Junior Rylie Poll won nine draw controls, including the opening draw in the overtime period which led to the winning goal.
For Parkland, juniors Addison Winfield and Milla Hahn each scored a hat trick. Senior Anna Sensinger added two goals for the Trojans, who dropped to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in the EPC.
Up next for Emmaus will be the EPC Tournament, which gets underway on Thursday, May 8 at Northampton High School.
The Hornets will likely by the No. 3 seed and take on second-seeded Easton in the first game of the doubleheader. The nightcap will feature the top seed and two-time defending champs Pleasant Valley battling fourth-seeded Nazareth.
