Girls Soccer – Bender scores a pair of goals on consecutive days as Hornets pick up key road victories at Northampton and Easton

Emmaus 2, Northampton 1 (Friday)

RECAP >> In a span of less than 18 hours, the Emmaus girls’ soccer team picked up a pair of road contests to remain unbeaten on the season.

On Friday afternoon at Northampton, sophomore Sofia Isaksson’s goal with 11 minutes left in the second half proved to be the difference as the Hornets handed the Konkrete Kids their first loss of the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory.

Another sophomore, Lizzie Bender, had given Emmaus a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of play with her fourth goal of the season off of a penalty kick.

Northampton (5-1-1) answered with the tying goal just four minutes later on Chloe Watson’s goal on a free kick.

Senior Ashley Stine picked up the win in goal for Emmaus making five saves.

Emmaus 1, Easton 0 (Saturday)

RECAP >> Following its hard-fought win over Northampton, Emmaus returned to the pitch on Saturday morning with an early 9 a.m. start at Easton.

Only one goal was scored in the match and that came from sophomore Lizzie Bender, who scored her fifth goal of the season, converting on a penalty kick in the 35th minute to give the Hornets the 1-0 victory.

In goal, senior Ashley Stine picked up the win recording her sixth shutout.

The victory improved Emmaus’ overall record to 7-0-1.

Next week, the Hornets will return to action with a pair of games as they travel to Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before hosting Freedom on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
