Girls Soccer – Hornets score first, but archrival Parkland scores game’s next three goals as they defeat Emmaus in regular-season finale 3-1.

Emmaus got a huge momentum boost in its road matchup with archrival Parkland last night scoring with just :24 seconds left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead at intermission.

That lead, however, was shortlived as the Trojans scored three goals in a span of 10 minutes after the break as they defeated the Hornets 3-1 in the regular-season finale for both teams.

The loss was the second straight for Emmaus, which was coming off of a 7-0 non-league defeat to defending state champ and unbeaten Central Dauphin last Saturday. The Hornets finished 12-3-1 in the EPC and are now 13-4-1 overall.

Parkland, meanwhile, remained unbeaten as they improved to 15-0-1 in the league 17-0-1. The Trojans will be the top seed for the upcoming league Tournament.

Freshman Lizzie Bender scored Emmaus’ only goal of the night, her 12th of the season.

Parkland had three different players score goals in the win with seniors Lauren Ervin and Aristea Gougoustamos along with junior Julia Hayward all finding the back of the net. Sophomore Ellie Kocher dished out a pair of assists.

The Trojans outshot Emmaus 8-4 in the match and held a 4-3 edge in corners. Junior goalie Ashley Stine was credited with five saves for the Hornets, while her counterpart, senior Sophie Frank made three stops.

In the series between the two schools, Emmaus now holds a slim 42-41-6 advantage.

Up next for the Hornets will be the league tournament which gets underway on Saturday. Emmaus is likely to be a top four seed and will host a first round game.
