Heading into its big matchup against rival Central Catholic, Emmaus had been unbeaten and allowed just a pair of goals through the first eight games of the season.

On Friday afternoon, the Vikettes handed the Hornets their first loss and equalled that goal tally with a thrilling 2-1 victory before a nice-sized crowd at Memorial Field.

Central Catholic junior Meredith Eisenmann scored a pair of goals in the match, including the game-winner midway through the second half breaking a 1-1 tie and giving the Vikettes the win.

With the victory, Central Catholic remained undefeated on the season (5-0-1 EPC/6-0-1 overall), while dropping Emmaus to 6-1-1 in the league and 7-1-1 overall.

The Hornets, who had outscored their opponents 38-2, had trailed 1-0 before tying the game with a little over five minutes remaining in the first half on junior Gabrielle Powell’s fourth goal of the season off an assist from classmate Kam McWhinney.

Emmaus will now look to bounce back from its first loss when they return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Pocono Mountain West at 4 p.m.
