At Memorial Field, the Hornets were forced to work overtime in an early 9 a.m. start against visiting Easton, but that didn’t deter head coach Chris Hain’s squad from keeping their winning ways.

Giuliana Meyer wound up scoring the golden goal in the second overtime as Emmaus earned its 10th straight victory to improve to 10-1 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the EPC.

“The game was pretty even throughout with both teams having their controlling moments,” said Hain. “We scored early with an excellent finish from Lizzy Bender beating their keeper to the far post. Easton tied the game 15 minutes into the second half on a well-played free kick from about 25 yards out.

“We settled in after Easton’s goal and controlled the game from there. We finally scored with less than two minutes left in the second overtime.”

Meyer, a junior, took a crossing pass from Bender in the 98th minute and put it past Easton goalie Miley Moyer for the game-winner and her ninth goal of the season.

Bender had given Emmaus an early 1-0 lead in the 5th minute of play with her team-leading 10th goal of the season before the Red Rovers tied the game on Julia Cohen’s second half goal.

Both teams had six shots on goal in the match. Senior Sadie Wallace earned the win in goal for the Hornets.

Emmaus will return to action on Monday at 4 p.m. as they travel to East Stroudsburg South (4-5 EPC/4-6 overall).
