Rivals Emmaus and Central Catholic battled through two 40-minute halves and two 10-minute overtime sessions on Friday afternoon at Memorial Field with neither team scoring, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Both teams, who entered the day undefeated, had their chances in this highly-entertaining matchup, with Central Catholic controlling play for most of the first half and Emmaus getting the better of the action after halftime.
Playing most of the game without their star forward and leading scorer senior Kam McWhinney (knee), Emmaus had the game’s best scoring chance in the 63rd minute of play, but sophomore Giuliana Meyer’s crossing pass to freshman Ella Scharper hit off the near post keeping the match scoreless.
The Hornets also had a good scoring threat in the waning seconds of regulation, but sophomore Lizzie Bender’s header sailed over the top of the cross bar.
The result was the first tie of the season for first year head coach Chris Hain’s squad who is now 3-0-1, meanwhile it was the second draw for the Vikettes (3-0-2) who tied Northampton earlier this week.
For the game, CCHS outshot Emmaus 5-3 with the Vikes holding an 8-2 advantage in corners. In goal, senior Ashley Stine turned away all five shots she faced, while her counterpart Lindsey Yen made three saves.
Emmaus will return to action on Monday as they travel to Pocono Mountain West at 4 p.m.
