Girls Soccer – Woodward scores a pair of goals, Hornets defeat Freedom for second time this season, 3-0 to advance to first EPC final since 2016

October 15, 2019

RECAP >> Freshman Madison Woodward scored a pair of goals as Emmaus defeated Freedom for the second time this season, 3-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinals on Tuesday night at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium.

The victory advances the Hornets (15-3-1) to their first EPC final since 2016. Awaiting them will be rival Parkland, which beat Easton 1-0 in the other semifinal. This will mark the third meeting between the two this season with the Trojans having defeated Emmaus 3-2 back on September 4 and the two battling to a scoreless tie at Memorial Field on September 30.

Woodward, who scored her team’s lone goal in last Saturday’s 1-0 EPC quarterfinal win over Northampton, found the back of the net twice in each half, including scoring the only goal her team would need in the 16th minute.

Teammate senior Lindsay Phillips also scored in the win with a goal right before the half to give Emmaus a 2-0 lead.

Senior Alexa Ryan picked up the win in goal, recording her 11th shutout of the season.
