Only three times this season have the Emmaus girls’ volleyball team come up on the short end of the scoreboard.

Once against rival Parkland and the other coming against Central Catholic.

This Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Liberty’s Memorial Gymnasium, the Hornets will have another opportunity to avenge the only other team that has handed them a defeat this fall.

By virtue of their 3-1 win over Freedom last night in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinals at Northampton High School, second-seeded Emmaus has punched their ticket to the championship for the first time in four years.

Awaiting head coach Jess Olang’s team will be top-seed and undefeated Bethlehem Catholic, who beat fourth-seeded Parkland 3-1 in the other semifinal.

The Golden Hawks, who are led by former Emmaus coach Jess Attieh, have already beaten Emmaus once this season, winning in straight sets back on September 8.

The Hornets, who was coming off a three set sweep over Pocono Mountain West in the quarterfinals on Saturday, were able to pull away Freedom after the match was tied at 1-1, winning Set 3 (25-21) and Set 4 (25-22). Emmaus also defeated the Patriots by a similar 3-1 score less than a month ago.

Senior outside hitter Amanda Rivera led Emmaus’ offensive attack with 13 kills to go along with 15 digs., while classmate setter Alyssa Heffner dished out 31 assists and three kills. Both Rivera and Heffner were recently named 1st Team EPC All-Stars.

Also, senior DS Haley Seidel had a big night with 13 digs, and she also reached a personal milestone with her 100th career ace.
