RECAP >> Facing her alma mater, Freedom, on Monday night, Brianne Giangiobbe knew the task wasn’t going to be any easy one for her Emmaus team going up against the school where she excelled at.

And true to the first-year coach’s words, it wasn’t,

But it was a satisfying victory nonetheless.

Getting all they could handle from and up-and-coming Patriot squad, the Hornets were able to survive a hard-fought three-set sweep as they knocked off their coach’s former school Freedom 25-22, 25-22, 25-12 inside the Emmaus auxiliary gymnasium.

The victory was the fourth straight for the Hornets who improved to 5-1 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) and 5-3 overall, meanwhile, the Patriots dropped just their second match of the season as they fell to 5-2

Senior outside hitter Macy Van Den Elzen led the Emmaus attack with a team-high 13 kills, while junior outside hitter Jaya Bhagat had a solid all-around game with six kills and 11 digs. Defensively, senior libero Kelsie Baus had a team-best 12 digs and two underclassmen – sophomore Kassidy Hallman and freshman Alice Frank – handed out 18 and 14 assists, respectively.

The Hornets will return to action at 5 p.m. on Wednesday as they travel to Pocono Mountain West.
