Girls Volleyball – Hornets give new head coach Brianne Giangiobbe first EPC win as they sweep Northampton in straight sets

RECAP >> The Emmaus girls volleyball team gave their new head coach Brianne Giangiobbe her first Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win on Tuesday night as the Hornets went on the road and swept Northampton 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20).

Leading the Hornets was junior outside hitter Jaya Bhagat with a game-high 16 kills and 7 digs and senior outside hitter Macy Van Den Elzen who had 11 kills, two aces and four digs.

Junior outside hitter Makenzie Krasley added 5 kills in the win, while senior outside hitter Maiah Sabol and junior outside hitter Lily Johnson each added 3 kills. Senior DS/L Kelsie Baus and sophomore DS Mia Pickering led the Hornets defensively with 10 and 9 kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Kassidy Hallman handed out a team-high 21 assists.

Northampton was led on offense by junior outside hitter Lindsey Nemeth who had 9 kills and classmate middle hitter Alexa Barowski with 7 kills. Senior setter Sydney Heffner dished out a game-high 32 assists.

Emmaus (1-0 EPC, 1-1 overall) was coming off a season-opening non-league loss to the state’s No.1 ranked team in Class 3A, Southern Lehigh 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-25, 13-15) last Friday. The Hornets also competed in the First Kill Invitational at Freedom High School over the weekend where they had a strong showing finishing with a 10-2 record.

Up next for Emmaus will be a trip to rival Parkland at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Penn Sports Radio will be providing live coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m.
