RECAP >> Emmaus got the Jessica Attieh coaching era off to a thrilling start on Monday night in Bethlehem in their season-opener as the Hornets rallied for a 3-2 win over the coach’s alma mater, Bethlehem Catholic.
Attieh, a 2015 graduate of Becahi, was hired as Emmaus’ new head coach back in late May and her first match against her former school couldn’t have ended in more dramatic fashion as the Hornets rallied from an 0-2 deficit to win the final three sets, including the fifth and deciding set 15-10.
Senior outside hitter Abby Schweitzer had a big night for the Emmaus offense with 16 kills, 24 digs and a pair of aces. Teammate junior outside hitter Carly Forsythe added 12 kills and senior liberto Hannah Horvath led the defense with a team-high 36 digs and three aces, including the game-winner. Senior setter Chayce Perna dished out a game-high 41 assists to go along with 19 digs and two aces and classmate DS Isabelle Russo had 13 digs.
Emmaus will be back in action at 5:30 p.m. today as they travel to Northampton.
