Girls Wrestling – Big early deficit to much for Hornets to overcome as they fall to ES South 39-36

The Emmaus girls wrestling team dropped a tight 39-36 match at East Strousburg South last night.

It was the second straight loss for the Hornets (2-2) who started the season 2-0 with wins over Bethlehem Catholic and Stroudsburg.

The Cavaliers jumped out to a big early lead and wound up winning seven of the 13 matches, recording bonus points in six of those bouts.

Emmaus junior Olivya Kroope remained unbeaten on the season (4-0) with a first period pin in 33 seconds over Shayla Taylor at 155.

Senior Sarah Luisi improved to 3-1 on the year pinning Paige Roman in 1:28 at 130, while freshman Haily Laible picked up her second win at 148 with a first period fall over Briana Thomas.

Junior Jocelyn Vargas (170), sophomore Petra Perez (190) and senior Katherine Soto-Acuna (235) all received forfeit wins.

Emmaus will return to the mat on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. as they host Southern Lehigh.
