The Emmaus golfers will compete in the District XI Class 3A Golf Tournament, which will get underway on Tuesday morning at the Steel Club in Hellertown.
Head coach Pat Birns’ squad (14-2) will be amongst four teams competing for the team title along with unbeaten and EPC champion Nazareth (16-0), unbeaten Colonial League titlist Southern Lehigh (11-0) and Schuylkill League champ Blue Mountain (12-3).
Emmaus last claimed the District XI team championship in back-to-back years, winning gold in 2019 and 2018. Southern Lehigh is the two-time defending champs.
Individually, junior Evan Walters V has been not only Hornets No.1 golfer all season long, but one of the area’s best with an average of 70, tops amongst all competitors. A year ago, Walters finished third with a 2-over 74 at districts and qualified for the PIAA State Tournament.
Senior Kyan DeLong, who was the top medalist at last week’s District XI qualifier, has also had a solid season and is the team’s No. 2 golfer at 74.80.
The other Emmaus golfers competing in the tournament include junior Silas Wellhoener (77.55), sophomores Anderson Francis (78.80) and Greyson Schmidt (79.50) along with senior Ryan Maloney (80.20).
In the girls’ tournament, Hornets senior Alexis Teichman, who won the EPC Championship by five strokes, will be competing for the individual title with her average score of 81.45 along with teammate, sophomore Ella Bloszinsky, who averages 88. Bloszinsky placed fourth at the league tournament.
